Available for the right team

I build AI products people actually use.

I’m Justin Ahinon, a senior product engineer with 7+ years in production. I take AI products from an uncertain idea to a deployed system: interface, data, LLM pipeline, evals, infrastructure, and analytics.

How I contribute

From first prototype to production reality.

I own the whole product

Interface, data model, LLM pipeline, infrastructure, analytics, and the unglamorous work of keeping it reliable after launch.

I treat AI as a system

I work on evals, retrieval, context, safety boundaries, and failure modes—not just the prompt or model call.

I make complex things usable

My frontend background is useful where AI meets a person: streaming output, uncertain answers, data-heavy screens, and fast feedback.

Selected proof

Work that has met real users.

Consumer AI search

WhatIsThatMovie

An embeddings and RAG search product that finds a film from a half-remembered scene, character, or feeling. I built and operate the product end to end.

WhatMedicaidPays

A public tool that turns plain-English questions into SQL over 50-state Medicaid data, protects the query boundary, and chooses the right chart, table, or map for each answer.

Product engineering at scale

Updraft at Cyfrin

I was the main engineer on the education platform, owning the SvelteKit frontend and working across its API, database, lesson experience, routing, and state.

The longer arc

Product builder, with strong foundations.

Before building independent AI products, I shipped software for platforms serving 100,000 to 800,000+ monthly users. At Fabric Blockchain Labs, I built real-time DeFi trading interfaces and shared packages across five SvelteKit applications.

Earlier, I spent four years contributing to WordPress Core, sponsored by Yoast. I led the migration of its end-to-end tests to Playwright, helped establish its Performance Team, and built developer documentation used by an enormous open-source community.

That combination—independent ownership, team-scale engineering, and open-source discipline—is what I bring to a product team.

What I’m looking for

A small team solving a consequential problem.

I’m most interested in senior product engineering or applied AI roles where I can own meaningful product surface area, work close to users, and help decide what should be built—not only implement a finished specification.

I’ve worked remotely with US and international teams for most of my career and can overlap with European and US hours. I’m open to full-time roles and focused, longer-term engagements.

Have a hard product problem?

Let’s talk about it.

Send me the problem you’re trying to solve, what you’ve learned so far, and where you think I could help.
